It is easy to say to yourself "Be the light in the dark". But what does this entail? How is it even possible? Consider that clarity in your thinking comes when you know your own mind, when you know what you want to do, when you know what it is that is expected of you and what you expect from yourself.
Most times the things we do, think and consider are the direct result of what we believe everyone else expects of us. We are wives, husbands, sons, daughters, employees and citizens before we are ourselves. In that mode we act and think not as we want but as we are taught we ought to. Tradition, culture, habits and expectations weigh us down until we stop resisting and just go along.
When we fail to question anything and stand up to anything it becomes difficult to question and stand up entirely.
To find yourself you have to start small. Go deep.
Discover your own light first. Then use it to guide others.
